AWS Network Manager Specialized2019年〜

A service for centrally managing global networks and visualizing Transit Gateway and SD-WAN connectivity

What It Does

AWS Network Manager is a service for centrally managing and visualizing your AWS global network (Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPN, Cloud WAN) and on-premises networks. It provides network topology display, connection status monitoring, and performance metrics collection.

Use Cases

Used for visualizing multi-region network configurations, monitoring Transit Gateway connection status, managing SD-WAN devices, and detecting network failures and identifying their impact scope.

Everyday Analogy

Think of it like a railway operations control center. It monitors the status of all routes (networks), stations (VPCs), and trains (traffic) nationwide on a single screen, detecting delays (latency) and service suspensions (outages).

What Is Network Manager?

AWS Network Manager is a network visualization service. It aggregates Transit Gateways, VPN connections, and Direct Connect across multiple regions into a single dashboard, displaying global network topology and connection status in real time. When integrated with Cloud WAN, it also enables policy-based global network management.

Topology and Monitoring

Network Manager's topology map lets you visually verify the connections between VPCs, Transit Gateways, VPNs, and Direct Connect. Each connection's status (Up/Down), byte count, and packet count metrics are displayed. Integration with CloudWatch enables alerts for connection status changes and performance degradation. Route Analyzer can also analyze Transit Gateway routing paths. For the latest trends and practical techniques in topology and monitoring, reference books on Amazon are also a great learning resource.

Getting Started

Create a global network in the Network Manager console and register your Transit Gateways. The topology map automatically displays the connection configuration. Register VPN connections and Direct Connect as well to complete the visualization of your entire hybrid network.

Things to Watch Out For

  • Network Manager itself is free. Separate charges apply for Transit Gateway and VPN usage
  • When using Cloud WAN, hourly charges for core network edges and data processing charges apply
