Amazon RDS for MariaDB now supports MariaDB 12.3

Amazon RDS for MariaDB now supports MariaDB 12.3, the latest LTS release, featuring Oracle function compatibility, native JSON validation, and query optimizer improvements

Amazon RDS for MariaDB now supports MariaDB major version 12.3, the latest Long-Term Support release from the MariaDB community. This release includes compatibility with the Oracle TO_DATE() function, reducing code changes needed when migrating applications from Oracle to MariaDB. It adds an IS JSON predicate for native JSON document validation in the database. The query optimizer now handles reorderable LEFT JOIN statements and ordered scans over RANGE partitions more efficiently, improving performance for these queries without application changes. Users can upgrade their database using Amazon RDS Blue/Green Deployments, in-place upgrades, or by restoring from a snapshot. Migration to RDS for MariaDB 12.3 from external MariaDB sources is also possible using AWS Database Migration Service.
