Region expansion

Amazon S3 Object Lock variable retention with event holds is now available in AWS GovCloud (US) Regions

Amazon S3 Object Lock now available in AWS GovCloud (US-East) and AWS GovCloud (US-West) with variable retention and event holds, ensuring WORM compliance for event-based retention requirements.

Variable retention and event hold for Amazon S3 Object Lock are now available in the AWS GovCloud (US-East) and AWS GovCloud (US-West) regions. Event hold sets a retention period on objects, with S3 protecting them while the hold is active. Releasing the hold retains the object for the specified duration. Unlike legal hold, event hold provides WORM compliance for the required retention period after a trigger event, without needing to keep data longer than policy dictates.

Why it matters

Available in AWS GovCloud (US) regions, this feature is useful for organizations needing event-based retention periods to meet financial regulations and compliance requirements.
