AWS Compute Optimizer enhances EBS volume recommendations with additional performance metrics
AWS Compute Optimizer now analyzes CloudWatch metrics to detect IOPS and throughput spikes, aiding cost-performance balance for bursty workloads
AWS Compute Optimizer now provides improved visibility into IOPS and throughput spikes when delivering Amazon EBS volume rightsizing recommendations. It analyzes two additional Amazon CloudWatch metrics, VolumeIOPSExceededCheck and VolumeThroughputExceededCheck, which indicate whether a workload consistently attempts to exceed the provisioned performance of a volume in any given minute. By incorporating these signals, Compute Optimizer helps users make informed decisions to balance cost and performance for workloads that experience bursts of high IOPS or throughput. This enhancement is available in all AWS Regions where AWS Compute Optimizer is offered, except AWS GovCloud (US) and China Regions. The underlying CloudWatch metrics are available at no additional charge for all EBS volumes attached to Nitro-based EC2 instances, excluding standard and Multi-Attach enabled volumes. Users can get started via the AWS Management Console, and more information is available in the AWS Compute Optimizer User Guide.
