Amazon EC2 M8i and M8i-flex instances now available in Canada West (Calgary) region
Amazon EC2 launches new M8i and M8i-flex instances powered by custom Intel Xeon 6 processors, offering improved performance and memory bandwidth over previous generations.
Today, Amazon EC2 M8i and M8i-flex instances became available in the Canada West (Calgary) region. These instances use custom Intel Xeon 6 processors exclusive to AWS, delivering higher performance and faster memory bandwidth than comparable Intel processors in the cloud. The M8i and M8i-flex instances provide up to 15% better price-performance and 2.5x more memory bandwidth compared to previous Intel-based instances. They offer up to 20% better performance than M7i and M7i-flex instances, with even greater gains for specific workloads. M8i-flex instances are ideal for general-purpose workloads such as web and application servers, microservices, small to medium data stores, virtual desktops, and enterprise applications, offering sizes from large to 16xlarge. The SAP-certified M8i instances come in 13 sizes, including two bare metal options and a new 96xlarge size for the largest applications.
Why it matters
This update introduces new EC2 instance types for general-purpose computing workloads, particularly suitable for large applications and those requiring continuous high CPU utilization.
