New feature

Amazon OpenSearch Serverless now supports a 5-second default refresh interval

Amazon OpenSearch Serverless reduces the default refresh interval from 10 seconds to 5 seconds for both search and vector collections, enabling faster searchability of newly indexed documents without requiring any configuration changes.

As of today, Amazon OpenSearch Serverless has reduced the default refresh interval for search and vector collections from 10 seconds to 5 seconds. This change controls how quickly newly indexed documents become searchable, enabling applications to achieve earlier read-write visibility automatically without any configuration or user action. The improvement applies to next-gen Amazon OpenSearch Serverless and is enabled by default for both search and vector collections. Faster refreshes benefit workloads requiring continuous indexing and near real-time retrieval, such as full-text search over frequently updated content, RAG, semantic search, and recommendation systems. This 5-second default refresh interval is now available across all 24 regions where Amazon OpenSearch Serverless is offered. For more details, see the Amazon OpenSearch Serverless documentation.

Why it matters

Amazon OpenSearch Serverless is a service for search and vector collections that minimizes the delay between data indexing and search. This update improves performance for applications requiring real-time capabilities.
