New feature

AWS EC2 Auto Scaling now supports Launch Before Terminate at account-level to replace instances

AWS EC2 Auto Scaling now allows enabling Launch Before Terminate as the default replacement behavior across all Auto Scaling groups in an account, ensuring full application capacity and availability during instance replacement events.

AWS EC2 Auto Scaling now enables Launch Before Terminate at the account level. When activated, Auto Scaling starts replacement instances and waits for them to pass health checks before terminating the targeted instances, ensuring full application capacity and availability during replacement events such as instance refreshes, rebalancing, health checks, and maximum instance lifetime replacements. This feature is managed via new PutAccountSetting and DescribeAccountSettings APIs in the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI, or AWS SDKs, is available in all AWS regions, and incurs no additional cost.

Why it matters

This change affects users who need to ensure application availability during instance replacement events in Auto Scaling groups.
