AWS Lambda durable functions now exports live telemetry for execution insights

Lambda durable functions now include a new Telemetry Exporter plugin that captures step-by-step execution history and sends it to chosen destinations for operational and business insights.

AWS Lambda now offers the Durable Execution Telemetry Exporter plugin for Lambda durable functions. This monitoring plugin captures step-by-step history of durable executions and sends it to one or more selected destinations. The exported data enables operational and business insights with historical retention beyond standard periods. Thirteen built-in destinations include Amazon CloudWatch Logs, Amazon S3 (for Amazon Athena), Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Aurora, and Amazon OpenSearch Service. Users can mask sensitive fields before export and control data volume by setting sampling rates. When used with an MCP server, on-call engineers can query lists of recent failed executions or identify failure causes, while business analysts can search all transactions for specific customers. The exporter is available in TypeScript, Python, Java, and Go. Implementation requires installing the exporter, registering the plugin in the function handler, and adding it to MCP server agents. The Durable Execution Telemetry Exporter is available at no additional cost in all AWS regions that support Lambda durable functions.

Why it matters

Useful for building resilient multi-step applications and AI workflows with Lambda durable functions that run for up to one year. Simplifies monitoring and analyzing execution status.
