Region expansion

AWS Lambda MicroVMs is now available in 4 additional AWS regions

AWS Lambda MicroVMs is now available in Asia Pacific (Hong Kong), Asia Pacific (Malaysia), Asia Pacific (Thailand), and Europe (Spain), enabling developers to run isolated compute environments closer to end-users without managing virtualization infrastructure.

AWS Lambda MicroVMs are now available in four new regions: Asia Pacific (Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand) and Europe (Spain), bringing the total to 14 regions. These server-less compute primitives offer VM-level isolation, near-instant startup and resume speeds, and state retention for user and AI-generated code execution. Developers can provide each user or job with its own isolated compute environment without managing virtualization infrastructure or balancing trade-offs between isolation, speed, and state retention. MicroVMs enable secure, stateful, and responsive code execution for applications such as AI coding assistants, interactive development environments, and vulnerability scanners. With this expansion, developers can run Lambda MicroVMs in four regions closer to end users, meeting latency and data residency requirements. MicroVM images can be built from Dockerfiles, and each MicroVM can be launched with a dedicated HTTPS URL supporting common connection protocols like HTTP/2, gRPC, and WebSockets. MicroVMs can be used via the AWS Lambda console, AWS CloudFormation, AWS Cloud Development Kit, or Agentic development tools using the Agent Toolkit for AWS.

Why it matters
