Region expansion

Amazon Cognito extends multi-Region replication to AWS GovCloud (US) Regions

Amazon Cognito multi-Region replication (MRR) now supports AWS GovCloud (US) Regions, enabling near real-time synchronization of user and machine identity data to a standby Region for continued authentication during primary Region disruptions.

Amazon Cognito now supports multi-region replication in AWS GovCloud (US), extending its resiliency benefits to more workloads. MRR synchronizes user and machine identity data in near real-time to a secondary user pool in a standby region, allowing traffic redirection to maintain authentication during primary region failures. Previously available in 16 commercial regions, MRR will soon support replication across additional AWS regions, helping meet business resilience, data residency, and compliance needs. It is offered as an add-on for essential or plus tier user pools and requires multi-region AWS KMS customer-managed keys.

Why it matters

Amazon Cognito provides user authentication and identity management. Expanding MRR support helps ensure resilience even in highly regulated government environments.
