Amazon EKS Auto Mode now supports advanced compute configuration
Amazon EKS Auto Mode now allows direct tuning of kubelet settings, Linux kernel sysctls, and hugepages via the NodeClass Kubernetes resource, enabling advanced node tuning for workloads requiring specific configurations
Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) Auto Mode now allows direct tuning of kubelet settings, Linux kernel sysctls, and hugepages via the NodeClass Kubernetes resource. Users can configure user namespaces for rootless container builds, adjust recovery thresholds and container log rotation to prevent disk or memory pressure, increase network and ARP cache limits for large clusters, and pre-allocate 2Mi or 1Gi hugepages for HPC, database, and latency-sensitive workloads. These settings are applied declaratively using the Kubernetes API. EKS Auto Mode validates and enforces configurations at node launch and maintains them through scaling and upgrade events, managing the underlying infrastructure while delivering required workload tuning. Maintenance of EC2 launch templates, custom AMIs, and privileged DaemonSets is unnecessary. Advanced compute configurations for Amazon EKS Auto Mode are available in all supported AWS regions.
Why it matters
Amazon EKS Auto Mode automates node provisioning, scaling, patching, and upgrades for Amazon EKS. This update enables advanced node tuning, allowing workloads with specific requirements such as CI/CD pipelines and HPC to run effectively.
