Region expansion

Amazon ElastiCache expands data tiering to R8gd and R7gd nodes in Europe (Spain) and Asia Pacific (Hyderabad)

Amazon ElastiCache now offers Valkey data tiering on Graviton4-based R8gd nodes in the Europe (Spain) Region and Graviton3-based R7gd nodes in the Europe (Spain) and Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Regions

Amazon ElastiCache for Valkey data tiering is now available in the Europe (Spain) region on Graviton4-based r8gd nodes and in the Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) and Europe (Spain) regions on Graviton3-based r7gd nodes. Data tiering scales Valkey clusters to hundreds of terabytes cost-effectively by using solid-state drives alongside memory, automatically moving less-used items to SSD when memory fills and returning them to memory on access. It suits workloads accessing up to 20% of their dataset regularly and applications tolerant of extra latency from SSD reads. R8gd nodes deliver up to 47% higher throughput, 43% lower p99 latency and 31% better price performance versus Graviton3-based nodes of the same size. R7gd nodes offer up to 28% more throughput (reads and writes per second), 21% lower p99 latency and 25% higher network bandwidth than Graviton2-based nodes. Actual performance varies by node size and workload. Data tiering requires Valkey 7.2 or later and can be enabled by creating a new cluster or upgrading an existing one via the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI or AWS SDK. For pricing, see the Amazon ElastiCache pricing page. See the ElastiCache documentation for more details on data tiering and supported node types.

Why it matters

Amazon ElastiCache combines memory and SSDs to enable low-cost operation of large-scale Valkey clusters. This update adds support for new node types in Europe and Asia Pacific regions, improving performance and cost efficiency.
