AWS launches a new Local Zone in Athens, Greece, supporting Amazon S3 and EBS Local Snapshots for in-country data processing and storage

AWS announces the general availability of a new Local Zone in Athens, Greece. The Athens Local Zone is the second Local Zone in EMEA, supporting Amazon S3 and Amazon EBS Local Snapshots, enabling customers to store and process data within Greece to meet local data residency requirements. The Athens Local Zone supports Amazon EC2 with C7i, M7i, and R7i instances, Amazon S3 with the One Zone-Infrequent Access storage class, Amazon EBS with Local Snapshots and volume types gp3, gp2, io1, sc1, and st1, Amazon ECS, Amazon EKS, Amazon VPC, AWS Direct Connect, and Application Load Balancer. Use cases include public sector services requiring strict data residency, financial applications needing in-country data processing, and real-time gaming and interactive experiences benefiting from single-digit millisecond latency. Customers can use the same APIs, tools, and security features available in AWS Regions, with no minimum commitment and pay-as-you-go pricing including On-Demand, Savings Plans, and Spot Instances. The Athens Local Zone is part of AWS Global Infrastructure, with Local Zones now available in more than 30 metropolitan areas worldwide.
