AWS DataSync now supports shared VPCs
AWS DataSync now supports shared Virtual Private Clouds (VPCs), allowing you to create agents and run transfer tasks using subnets shared across AWS accounts with AWS Resource Access Manager (RAM).
AWS DataSync now supports shared virtual private clouds (VPCs). Using AWS resource access manager (RAM), you can create DataSync agents in shared subnets across AWS accounts and run transfer tasks. This enables private data transfers through shared subnets and VPC endpoints managed in a central account. Previously, customers centralizing networks needed to create separate DataSync VPC endpoints per account via AWS PrivateLink, consuming IP addresses and adding operational overhead. With shared VPC support, one endpoint in the VPC-owning account serves all accounts sharing the subnet, saving IP space and eliminating per-account endpoints. This release also helps when using a single account: one VPC endpoint can serve multiple subnets, removing the need for matching endpoints per subnet. Shared VPCs are supported for both extended and basic agent-based tasks. To get started, create a DataSync agent using the console or CreateAgent API, specifying the account and shared subnet through AWS RAM. AWS DataSync's shared VPC support is available in all AWS regions except secret regions owned by AWS.
Why it matters
AWS DataSync is a service that automates and optimizes data transfer. This update allows sharing VPC resources across multiple AWS accounts, simplifying network management.
