AWS Systems Manager now diagnoses more issues that cause EC2 instances to be unmanaged
AWS Systems Manager extends its diagnosis capability to identify six additional categories of issues preventing Amazon EC2 instances and hybrid-activated nodes from being managed
Today, AWS Systems Manager extended its diagnostics to identify six additional problem categories that prevent Amazon EC2 instances or hybrid-activated nodes from being managed. Previously, diagnostics focused on network connectivity; now they also detect IAM permissions, SSM agent version, instance status checks, OS configuration, default host management settings, and hybrid activation issues. This enables faster troubleshooting by returning specific, actionable causes for more instances. The diagnostics run in the Systems Manager unified console, reporting identified issues per category, each with step-by-step guidelines. For some problems, you can resolve them directly from the console by running AWS Systems Manager Automation runbooks. The feature is available by default in all AWS regions and is billed as a standard Systems Manager Automation runbook execution. For details, see the AWS Systems Manager user guide or product page.
