New feature

EC2 Image Builder now integrates with ASG for faster image builds

EC2 Image Builder now allows using instances from an Auto Scaling Group for image builds, reducing build time by reusing running instances

EC2 Image Builder can use existing instances from an Auto Scaling Group (ASG) to speed up image builds by skipping instance launch and initialization. You can specify the ASG in the image builder's infrastructure settings. Instead of launching new instances for each build, the service selects running instances from the ASG, applies build components, and creates the image. The ASG continuously replenishes instances used in builds, ensuring they are always available for the next pipeline run. This feature is opt-in only, leaving existing pipelines unaffected. Pipelines without an ASG configured continue using the default launch path unchanged. The functionality is available in all AWS regions at no additional cost. See the EC2 Image Builder documentation to configure ASG integration into your pipelines.

Why it matters

EC2 Image Builder automates the creation of EC2 images. This integration improves build efficiency, particularly beneficial for large environments or frequent builds
