New feature

Amazon ECS now provides real-time deployment observability in the AWS Management Console

Amazon ECS now offers real-time service deployment observability in the Amazon ECS Console for native Linear, Canary, and Blue/Green deployment strategies, consolidating deployment monitoring and troubleshooting in one place.

Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) provides real-time service deployment monitoring in the Amazon ECS console for native linear, canary, and blue/green deployment strategies. This integrates deployment monitoring and troubleshooting within the console, allowing users to track progress, monitor health, and diagnose issues without switching tools. The live deployment timeline shows progress for each phase, service events, and task start/stop as deployments occur, reflecting the current state at all times. It tracks traffic shift distribution between source and target revisions and instantly displays the current lifecycle stage, such as green task scaling, lifecycle hook waiting, or bake time. Deployment health signals, including live task failure thresholds, deployment alarm status, container and load balancer health checks, and lifecycle hook state, appear alongside the timeline. If a failure occurs, the timeline shows failing tasks and provides deep links and diagnostic context to services like AWS CloudTrail, enabling quick root cause analysis and action. These features are available at no additional cost for all Amazon ECS services using native linear, canary, or blue/green deployment types in AWS commercial regions and AWS GovCloud (US) regions. To get started, navigate to any Amazon ECS service in the Amazon ECS console and select the Deployments tab.

Why it matters

Amazon ECS is an AWS service that simplifies the deployment and management of containerized applications. This update enables developers to more intuitively monitor deployment progress and health, and quickly identify and address failures.
