Amazon Route 53 Resolver is now generally available on second-generation AWS Outposts, providing local, managed recursive DNS resolution that reduces latency and eliminates the need to traverse the Service Link to reach the parent AWS Region.
Amazon Route 53 Resolver is now generally available on second-generation AWS Outposts racks. It resolves DNS queries from workloads on the Outpost locally, reducing latency and eliminating the need for service links to the parent AWS region. Route 53 Resolver maintains cached DNS records during service link interruptions, ensuring continuous DNS resolution. The service runs entirely on AWS managed infrastructure within the Outpost and requires no customer compute capacity. For multi-rack second-generation Outposts, Route 53 Resolver is enabled by default, with an option to opt out by contacting AWS Support. It is available in all AWS regions that support second-generation Outposts. All customers, including current preview customers, receive a 91-day free trial until December 21, 2026. From December 22, 2026, the service is priced at $0.65 per rack per hour. For more information, see the Route 53 Resolver on Outposts documentation and the Amazon Route 53 pricing page.
Why it matters
This update is relevant for customers who need to optimize DNS resolution in their AWS Outposts environments. Local DNS resolution improves performance and reduces reliance on the cloud.
