Amazon ECS adds Amazon VPC Lattice support for blue/green, linear, and canary deployments
Amazon ECS now supports built-in blue/green, linear, and canary deployment strategies using Amazon VPC Lattice, enabling managed traffic shifting natively for applications communicating across VPCs and AWS accounts during updates.
Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) now natively supports blue/green, linear, and canary deployment strategies using Amazon VPC Lattice. Applications communicating between services across VPCs or AWS accounts can manage and migrate traffic during updates. This allows customers to control traffic during deployment, choosing to shift all traffic at once with blue/green, in equal increments with linear, or starting with a small percentage using canary. Teams can validate new versions with test traffic and run custom verification steps or manual approvals via deployment lifecycle hooks, including Lambda and pause hooks. These services can automatically roll back deployments upon issues using Amazon CloudWatch alarms or Amazon ECS deployment circuit breakers, with the option for immediate rollback to the previous version during bake time.
Why it matters
This update is useful for users developing applications that communicate across VPCs and AWS accounts. Users of Amazon ECS and Amazon VPC Lattice can control deployment strategies to improve the reliability and safety of releases.
