Amazon EventBridge relaunches event buses for enterprise scale

Amazon EventBridge introduces a new enhanced Custom event bus, enabling scalable event-driven applications with strict ordering, open formats, and built-in retention.

Amazon EventBridge has re-released a new enhanced custom event bus to enable building event-driven applications. This new custom event bus allows applications to be built to match team separation and organizational scale. By creating a custom event bus and sharing it across accounts, teams can publish and consume events with strict ordering, open event formats, built-in retention, and advanced event transformation support. The EventBridge custom event bus is a serverless event broker that can create scalable event-driven applications by routing events between applications, SaaS integrations, and AWS services. It can be shared with one or more accounts through AWS Resource Access Manager, allowing publishers to send events directly to a central event bus. The new event publishing API allows events to be published in common JSON-based formats such as CloudEvents and retained without schema changes. The custom event bus has a built-in 24-hour retention period that can be extended up to a year, enabling recovery from application errors and hydration from historical data for new components. The new subscriber resource allows events to be filtered and delivered to over 250 AWS services. Native support for strictly ordered use cases ensures that customers can process events in the exact order they are received. New event evaluation enables automatic content-based deduplication. The new custom event bus can be created and shared using the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI, AWS SDK, serverless agent skills, and AWS CloudFormation. To keep existing custom event bus experiences separate from the new enhanced custom event bus, the existing bus has been renamed to "custom event bus - classic". All existing APIs remain unchanged.
