Amazon S3 Metadata is now generally available in six regions: Asia Pacific (Hyderabad, Malaysia, New Zealand, Taipei, Thailand) and Mexico Central. It enables instant discovery and understanding of S3 data through automated metadata, automatically updating metadata for both new and existing objects. This facilitates business analytics and real-time inference applications. The annotation feature allows attaching up to 1 GB of business context directly to objects in JSON, XML, or YAML format, which can be queried through S3 Metadata annotation tables in these regions. S3 Metadata is currently generally available in 38 AWS regions.

Why it matters

S3 Metadata enables automated metadata collection and querying for S3 data, useful for analytics and real-time processing. Region expansion makes it accessible to more customers.
