ARC Region switch adds four new capabilities
Amazon Application Recovery Controller Region switch now includes AWS Systems Manager Run Command execution, custom action Lambda payloads, service quota checks, and target group health waits, enhancing failover orchestration
Amazon Application Recovery Controller (ARC) region switching helps manage failover for multiregion applications and limits recovery time during region outages. It now adds four features: a run block for AWS Systems Manager Run Command to execute commands on managed instances or virtual machines during failover, a payload capability for custom action Lambdas to reuse Lambda functions across recovery plans, a service quota check to verify quota consistency between primary and standby regions and automatically request quota increases to reduce the risk of service quota shortages during recovery, and a target group health wait feature for compute scaling actions to confirm provisioned compute capacity is ready to handle traffic. For details, see the documentation for the run block for AWS Systems Manager Run Command, the run block for custom action Lambdas, service quota checks, and the target group health wait feature for Amazon ECS service scaling run blocks and Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling group run blocks.
Why it matters
This update affects users managing multi-region application failover with ARC Region switch, improving automation and reliability during failover events
