AWS License Manager now enables direct upgrades of EC2 Ubuntu LTS instances to Ubuntu Pro from AWS Marketplace. This allows customers to enhance security and meet compliance without rebuilding infrastructure or migrating workloads. Ubuntu Pro subscriptions provide security patches for up to 10 years, extendable to 15, and cover open-source applications like NGINX, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis beyond the base OS. It also supports kernel live patches for critical updates without reboots, minimizing downtime. Customers with existing Canonical Ubuntu Pro subscriptions can upgrade directly during the conversion workflow, while others can subscribe via the AWS License Manager console. This feature is available in all commercial regions where AWS License Manager is offered.
