New feature

AWS CLI now supports bulk skill updates and version checks for the Agent Toolkit for AWS

AWS CLI has expanded with bulk skill updates and version checks for the Agent Toolkit, allowing developers to update all skills to the latest versions in a single command.

Today, AWS expanded the Agent Toolkit for AWS commands in the AWS CLI, adding two new features. Customers can now run aws agent-toolkit check-skill-updates to compare installed skills against the latest versions available in the registry, and aws agent-toolkit update-skill --all to update all outdated skills with a single command. The Agent Toolkit for AWS includes the AWS MCP server (providing a secure, auditable agent interface to over 15,000 AWS APIs), agent skills (expert guidance on storage, networking, analytics and more), and plugins (bundling the MCP server and skillset into one installation). These CLI additions allow developers to quickly identify and update all available skills without managing them individually, which is especially useful for teams using many skills across serverless, storage, networking, analytics and other domains. The new commands extend existing AWS CLI capabilities for installing, searching and configuring the AWS MCP server and agent skills in popular coding agents like Kiro, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. To get started, see the Agent Toolkit for AWS user guide for AWS CLI. Ensure you have AWS CLI version 2.37.0 or later installed. The AWS MCP server is available in the US East (N. Virginia) and Europe (Frankfurt) regions.

Why it matters

This update is useful for developers and teams who want to ensure their AWS coding agents operate with the latest guidance.
