What Is Pinpoint?

Amazon Pinpoint is a multi-channel marketing communication service. While SES specializes in email delivery, Pinpoint integrates email, SMS, push notifications, and voice into one service with segmentation, campaign management, and analytics. The Journeys feature lets you build multi-step communication flows that respond to user behavior.

Segments and Campaigns

A segment is a group of target users. You define segments by attributes (age, region), behavior (app usage frequency, purchase history), and custom attributes. A campaign configures message delivery to a segment, specifying delivery time, message content, and A/B test variations. Getting Started

Create a project in the Pinpoint console and enable the email or SMS channel. Import endpoints (user contact information) to create segments, then configure and send campaigns. The email channel integrates with SES, so you'll need to move SES out of sandbox mode.

Things to Watch Out For

  • Email delivery follows SES pricing. SMS costs vary significantly by destination country
  • Moving email out of sandbox mode (production access) requires an application to AWS
