Amazon CloudWatch announces log routing and chained log parsers

Amazon CloudWatch now supports conditional log routing and chained parsers via pipelines, providing more control over how log data is transformed and routed to CloudWatch log groups

Amazon CloudWatch now supports conditional log routing and chained parsers in pipelines, allowing finer control over log data transformation and destination log groups. CloudWatch pipelines are a fully managed service for collecting, transforming, and routing telemetry without managing infrastructure. Conditional log routing lets you define routes based on processed fields, sending each event to different CloudWatch log groups by severity, source, or type, with appropriate retention and access controls. Chained parsers apply multiple parser processors sequentially, enabling later parsers to consume fields generated by earlier ones, such as parsing a JSON envelope followed by applying a Grok parser to extracted fields. These features are available in all commercial AWS regions where CloudWatch pipelines are generally offered and can be configured via the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI, or AWS SDK. For more information, see the Amazon CloudWatch Pipelines documentation.

Why it matters

This update is useful for developers and deployment teams struggling with log data processing and management. The enhanced capabilities of CloudWatch pipelines make it easier to handle complex log formats and route them to appropriate log groups.
