Amazon DocumentDB supports direct major version upgrades from engine versions 3.6 and 4.0 to 8.0, allowing upgrades while preserving data and settings

Amazon DocumentDB (MongoDB-compatible) supports direct major version upgrades (MVU) from engine versions 3.6 and 4.0 to version 8.0, eliminating the need for intermediate upgrades while preserving existing data, configurations, and cluster settings. Upgrading to version 8.0 provides the latest security patches, performance improvements, and new developer features, available in all currently supported AWS regions for these versions.

Why it matters

Amazon DocumentDB is a managed database service compatible with MongoDB, and this upgrade capability allows users to easily access newer features and security updates
