Amazon RDS now adds full snapshot size information to the Console and API
Amazon RDS now displays the full snapshot size for RDS Snapshots, allowing customers to retrieve full snapshot sizes programmatically via the DescribeDBSnapshots API using the new 'FullSnapshotSizeInBytes' field.
Amazon RDS now displays the full size of RDS snapshots in both the console and API. The total snapshot size can be retrieved programmatically using the FullSnapshotSizeInBytes field or viewed in the console under the Full Snapshot Size column. Because Amazon RDS snapshots are incremental, each snapshot stores only new blocks and references unchanged blocks from prior snapshots. The FullSnapshotSizeInBytes field shows the combined size of blocks stored directly in that snapshot and all blocks referenced from earlier snapshots. This feature is available for all Amazon RDS database instances across all commercial AWS regions, accessible today through the Amazon RDS Management Console, AWS command line interface (CLI), or AWS SDK.
Why it matters
This update benefits users who need to accurately understand snapshot sizes when managing database backups and restores.
