Amazon CloudWatch Logs Insights now lets you estimate bytes scanned before running a query
Amazon CloudWatch Logs Insights provides a way to estimate the volume of log data, in bytes, that a query would scan across selected log groups and time ranges without executing the query, allowing users to adjust selections before running queries
Amazon CloudWatch Logs Insights now estimates the log data bytes scanned by a query on selected log groups and time ranges without executing it, allowing adjustments before running. The CloudWatch console shows estimates automatically when changing log groups, time ranges, or query text. With AWS CLI or API, append the estimate command to request explicitly. Queries using the estimate command do not incur CloudWatch Logs Insights query charges. This feature is available in all AWS commercial regions. For details, see Amazon CloudWatch Logs documentation.
Why it matters
This update benefits developers and operations teams using CloudWatch Logs Insights by allowing them to estimate query scan volumes beforehand, aiding in cost management and performance optimization.
