ARC Region switch adds Amazon RDS Switchover Read Replica execution block

Amazon Application Recovery Controller's Region switch now automates recovery orchestration for Amazon RDS databases running Oracle Data Guard in multi-Region workloads

The Amazon RDS Switchover Read Replica execution block has been added to ARC Region switch, automating recovery orchestration for Amazon RDS databases running Oracle Data Guard in multi-Region workloads. Previously, customers had to manually reverse the roles of the primary database and its read replica or promote a read replica to a primary database instance during a Regional failover. Region switch now automates this recovery process, enabling zero data loss role transitions between the primary database and read replica during planned failovers, or promoting the read replica to a primary database during unplanned failovers where speed is critical. With native cross-account support, you can orchestrate recovery of Amazon RDS instances hosted in a different account from your Region switch plan, enabling centralized management of recovery across your organization.

Why it matters

This update is relevant for customers who need to automate failover of multi-Region applications during regional impairments. ARC Region switch helps customers orchestrate failover to achieve bounded recovery time in case of regional failures.
