AWS Lambda supports Seekable OCI (SOCI) lazy loading for Lambda Managed Instances
AWS Lambda now supports Seekable OCI (SOCI) lazy loading for Lambda Managed Instances, reducing container startup times by up to 70%. Create a SOCI index in Amazon ECR and publish a function version to enable it automatically.
AWS Lambda now supports deferred loading of Seekable OCI on Lambda managed instances, reducing startup time by up to 70% by fetching only required files at runtime. This resolves delays in compute-intensive applications like data processing pipelines and high-throughput API backends that previously waited for image downloads and preparation. Push a SOCI index to Amazon ECR and tag function versions with the SOCI-indexed tag to enable automatic deferred loading. For coding assistants such as Kiro, Claude Code, and Codex, install the Lambda managed instances skill from the AWS agent toolkit. This feature is available in all AWS commercial regions where Lambda managed instances are offered.
Why it matters
Useful for users building compute-intensive applications such as data processing pipelines and high-throughput API backends. Reduces startup times for Lambda Managed Instances and improves performance at scale.
