AWS Storage Gateway now supports FIPS-compliant private connectivity for Tape and Volume Gateway
AWS Storage Gateway adds FIPS 140-3 validated endpoints via AWS PrivateLink for Tape and Volume Gateway, enabling private network use for regulated workloads.
AWS Storage Gateway now supports FIPS 140-3 validated endpoints over AWS PrivateLink for both Tape and Volume Gateway. This allows FIPS-compliant traffic to stay on the private AWS network instead of the public internet, simplifying use for regulated workloads. To use this feature, create a FIPS interface endpoint in your VPC and select the FIPS VPC endpoint option when activating the gateway. Gateway software version 3.2.7 or later is required. The update is available in eight AWS Regions that offer FIPS endpoints.
Why it matters
This update affects users of AWS Storage Gateway handling regulated workloads. It enables FIPS-compliant encryption over a private network, simplifying security compliance.
