Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio now supports two new connection capabilities: Iceberg REST Catalog connections and IAM authentication for Amazon DocumentDB
Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio adds support for Iceberg REST Catalog connections and IAM authentication for Amazon DocumentDB, enabling data teams to connect to more governed data sources and use credential-less authentication across projects
Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio now supports two new connection features for external Apache Iceberg catalogs and Amazon DocumentDB. The Iceberg REST catalog connection allows linking to supported catalog types including Snowflake Open Catalog (Polaris), Databricks Unity Catalog, and generic IRC types. Users can browse catalogs in the data explorer, read and write in Visual ETL, and run queries from data notebooks. Authentication uses OAuth2 or bearer tokens, with temporary Amazon S3 credentials for data access. With IAM authentication, connections authenticate through IAM roles, eliminating the need to store database usernames or passwords. These connection features are available in all AWS regions where Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio is offered, at no additional cost.
Why it matters
Data engineers and scientists can leverage these features to simplify access to governed data sources and securely manage credentials
