New feature

AWS Deadline Cloud now supports expressions in job templates

AWS Deadline Cloud now supports expressions and rich parameter types in job templates, enabling easier automation of production pipelines with Python-style syntax for arithmetic, conditionals, and more.

AWS Deadline Cloud now supports flexible expressions and rich parameter types in job templates, allowing customers to better fit the service into existing production pipelines. The expressions include arithmetic, conditionals, string and path operations, and list inclusion or exclusion, usable with Python-style syntax. This enables splitting frame ranges per task, deriving output paths from scene names, and toggling optional flags directly within job templates. New boolean, list, and frame range parameter types align with how pipelines already describe work. Checkboxes add the --gpu flag and corresponding host requirements when set, and camera lists can become the task range for steps. Expressions are type-checked at submission and their evaluation is deterministic, ensuring predictable job execution each time. These features come from the new EXPR extension to the Open Job Description spec, available in all supported AWS regions.

Why it matters

AWS Deadline Cloud is a fully managed service that helps teams run compute-intensive workloads in the cloud for visual effects, animation, product design, simulation, and gaming. This update makes it easier to automate production pipelines.
