AWS Transform now supports Apache Kafka migration assessments for Amazon MSK
AWS Transform provides agentic AI-powered migration assessments for moving on-premises Apache Kafka clusters to Amazon MSK, delivering compatibility checks, right-sized broker recommendations, and cost projections in minutes
AWS Transform uses agent-based AI to provide assessments for migrating on-premises Apache Kafka clusters to Amazon MSK. It analyzes workloads, recommends suitable AWS services, and generates TCO business cases-including pricing options and next steps-within minutes. For Kafka workloads, the assessment agent checks compatibility, recommends appropriate MSK Express brokers, and provides cost forecasts, accelerating migration decisions. Typically, Kafka-to-MSK migration assessments require manual steps like topology mapping and compatibility checks over weeks; this feature starts by uploading a Kafka cluster inventory file or describing the cluster via chat. The agent verifies MSK compatibility (topology, version, settings, etc.), sizes MSK Express brokers, and forecasts costs across broker time, storage, data ingest, and cross-AZ transfers. Users can also create customized "what-if" scenarios to compare prices across regions, adjust retention, or explore alternative settings, generating comprehensive business cases for stakeholders. The Amazon MSK migration assessment is available in all AWS regions where AWS Transform is offered. For details, see the Amazon MSK Developer Guide "Evaluating MSK migration readiness with AI tools" or the AWS Transform User Guide.
