Amazon OpenSearch Service introduces validation advisory for domain configuration changes

Amazon OpenSearch Service now offers validation advisory for domain configuration changes, helping you make informed decisions on risky changes. Changes are classified as Critical or Warning, with Warnings requiring acknowledgment before proceeding.

Amazon OpenSearch Service now offers a validation advisory for domain configuration changes, enabling informed decisions even for risky modifications. Each validation is classified as either critical or warning; critical changes are blocked, while warnings require confirmation before proceeding. Previously, results were only pass or block, with no way to flag risky changes. The validation advisory helps identify potential issues without blocking deployment, such as undersized dedicated master nodes or exceeding recommended cluster shard limits. Warnings can be checked when submitting changes, via dry-run results, AWS CloudFormation templates, API responses, or Amazon EventBridge notifications. This feature is supported for all Amazon OpenSearch Service domains running OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, and is available in every AWS region where the service is offered.

Why it matters

Amazon OpenSearch Service is a managed service for search and analytics. This update helps users better understand risks in configuration changes and deploy more safely.
